While the COVID-19 pandemic required office workers to modify or completely change their workspaces to maintain health and safety protocols, the increasing availability of the COVID vaccine now have many picturing how their return to work will look in the post-COVID world. Now that U.S. workers have worked remotely for months during the pandemic, a more balanced approach is dictating workplace preferences.

According to the Gensler Research Institute’s U.S. Workplace Survey, the majority of respondents preferred neither a complete return to work nor working remote 100 percent of the time. Instead, the majority of workers preferred a hybrid of the two.

When asked how many days per week would you prefer to work from the office versus remotely (or at home), 21 percent would prefer to work one or two days and 24 percent would prefer to work three or four days remotely each week.

Why might this be the case?

Workers likely want what they’ve been missing throughout the pandemic: connection. They see the physical workplace and in-person collaboration as key aspects of their jobs. They want to collaborate, socialize and capture the long-term positive impact these activities have on their careers. Inc. Collaborative projects have become a familiar tool for businesses – with good reason.
